Many Norwegians confess that they have never seen a black person before. In cities like Trondheim or Hamar black people are feared and considered as a menace to the Norwegian society. Africa Matata talked to immigrants from Thailand, Congo (DRC), Burundi, Rwanda, Liberia,Cote d'Ivoire, Zimbabwe and Malawi who have all experienced some kind of racism. Most of them have been living in Norway for 3 years. During the last 7 years, Norway has opened its doors to refugees from Central and East Africa. Vianney Manirakiza,a Burundian immigrants says: "I'm glad to be alive and I thank the Norwegian Government for bringing me here. After 5 years here, I'm not sure if it is better to live in a place where I am ridiculed, laughed at everyday. It is not surprising that many opt for suicide" When immigrants from Poland arrive in Norway, they are welcomed with no reservations, simply because of their skin color.
